No. 1 Gettysburg Clips No. 19 Stevenson

CLERMONT, Fla. – Senior Maddie Coleman made a career-high 16 saves to lead the top-ranked Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team to an 11-4 victory over No. 19 Stevenson University at the National Training Center on Monday, March 12.
Gettysburg (3-0) turned in the final five goals to get past Stevenson (3-2) and post its third consecutive win over a top 20 foe to start 2012. Sophomore Loren Pruitt tied her career high with four goals, while sophomore Kelsey Markiewicz and senior Hannah Church each added three scores.
The Bullets started early as Church netted the game's first goal just 24 seconds into the contest. Pruitt added another score to stake the nation's top team to a 2-0 lead at 27:28.
Stevenson stayed in the fight and pulled to 4-2 on a goal by Marissa Meiklejohn at 11:02. Markiewicz boosted the Bullets to a 5-2 lead heading into the half with a man-down goal just 16 seconds before the break.
The Mustangs tallied two of the first three scores of the final period to pull to 6-4 with 16:44 remaining. The Gettysburg offense went to work over the final time with five unassisted goals, including two each by Markiewicz and Pruitt to put the game to rest.
Coleman notched eight saves in each half to top her previous high by four. She was helped out defensively by juniors Alex Casey and Hayward Sawers who each recorded six ground balls and one caused turnover.
Markiewicz added an assist and tied junior Mairead McGuirk for team honors with three draw controls. Church's goal output pushed her into a tie for sixth on Gettysburg's all-time list with 149. Robinson chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Gettysburg will look to make it four wins in a row against ranked squads this spring when the Bullets face No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, March 14, at 10 a.m. at the National Training Center.
