Markiewicz Named Centennial Player of Week
from press release
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team made it two-for-two with the Centennial Conference's Offensive Player of the Week award as sophomore Kelsey Markiewicz (Salisbury, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.)) earned the honor on Monday, March 5.
One week after senior Hannah Church (Ellicott City, Md./Mount de Sales) was named the conference's top offensive player, Markiewicz took home the award after turning in a career day at Elizabethtown College on March 3. The sophomore midfielder recorded personal marks across the board with seven goals, four assists, and 11 points. Her point total was five better than her previous career high and was the most by a Bullet since Julika Blankenship '03 dropped 12 points on Ursinus College in 2003.
Markiewicz was efficient against the 20th-ranked Blue Jays, scoring her seven goals on just nine shots. She also tied a career mark with three ground balls and fell just one shy of her best day off the draw with seven draw controls.
Gettysburg (2-0), ranked No. 1 in the latest national poll, takes the next week off before embarking on a two-game swing through Florida. The Bullets face Stevenson University on Monday, March 12, at 10 a.m. before taking on No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology two days later at the same time. Both games will be played at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
