Two W&L Women Earn ODAC Honors

FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference recently announced its players of the week for the week ending on Feb. 20, and W&L had two athletes honored.
Senior midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) was recognized as the women's lacrosse POW, while junior Ellen Yeatman (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) earned the recognition for women's tennis.
Mathews led the No. 15 Generals in an 18-17 overtime victory against No. 16 Mary Washington on Sunday, scoring five goals while also registering two draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover. The Generals are off to a 1-0 start and will travel to Sewanee and Stevenson for contests this upcoming week.
Playing at the No. 1 position, Yeatman went a perfect 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles as W&L swept both Lynchburg and Bridgewater by scores of 9-0 on Saturday. In singles, Yeatman defeated Bridgewater's Katie Gordon, 6-1, 6-3, and Lynchburg's Clare Wallendjack by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Playing doubles, she paired with sophomore Sallie Griffin (Warrenton, Va./Highland School) to top the Bridgewater duo of Katie Gordon and Katy Bergey, 8-4, while defeating Lynchburg's Susanna Jones and Clare Wallendjack, 8-0. W&L is currently ranked 10th in the nation and will return to action on March 1, hosting Radford for a 4:00 pm match.
