Gettysburg's Scanlan Gets Centennial Kudo
from press release
LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior Anna Scanlan (Lutherville,
Md./Roland Park Country School) was tabbed the Centennial
Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week according
to an announcement made by the league office on Monday, April
26.
Scanlan earned her first selection as the conference's top weekly
player after helping Gettysburg College cap a perfect regular
season in the Centennial Conference, including defeating archrival
and then-No. 4 Franklin & Marshall College on April 21. Scanlan
led a defensive effort that held the Diplomats to their lowest goal
total in nearly two years, totaling four ground balls and four
caused turnovers.
In the season finale at Ursinus College on April 24, Scanlan
chipped in with two ground balls, one draw control, and one caused
turnover as the Bullets capped a perfect conference season with a
16-6 decision.
Scanlan is in the midst of her finest season with the Orange and
Blue. She has started all 16 contests she has played and ranks
third on the team with 33 ground balls and is tied for fifth with
14 caused turnovers. It was the fifth weekly conference accolade
bestowed upon a Bullet this spring, and third defensive award.
Gettysburg (15-2, 9-0 CC), ranked fifth in the latest
Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)
national poll, will host the 2010 CC Tournament at Clark Field on
May 1-2. The Bullets will play the winner of Wednesday's first
round game between Dickinson College and Haverford College on
Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by Franklin & Marshall and Ursinus
in the second semifinal. Sunday's championship is slated for a 2
p.m. start.
