Ithaca Trips No. 10 Stevens; Controls E8

ITHACA, N.Y. -Behind a 7-1 game-ending run, the women's
lacrosse team upset Stevens 13-11 Saturday afternoon at Carp Wood
Field. The Ducks (8-2, 3-1 Empire 8) are ranked 10th in the nation.
With the win, the Bombers (5-3, 4-0 Empire 8) take sole control of
first place in the conference. Freshman Tracy Rivas (East
Meadow/East Meadow) led the Bomber offense , netting a career-high
five goals.
Stevens surged into the second half, breaking a 6-6 tie with four
goals in the first eight minutes of the period. The Ducks would
score just once more in the half, and Ithaca netted six straight
goals to take a 12-10 lead. Rivas scored three of the goals, with
sophomore Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet)
adding two and senior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus,
Ohio) scoring once.
Stevens pulled the deficit back within one with a goal with just
eight minutes to play, but an Ithaca score from freshman Kim
Armbruster (Montville/Boonton, N.J.) pushed the Bomber lead back to
two with 6:20 to play. Ithaca kept control of the ball for most of
the remainder of the game, not allowing a Stevens shot over the
final seven minutes of play while causing three Ducks
turnovers.
The Bomber defense caused 12 turnovers in the game, with junior
Elizabeth Marino (The Hun School/Skillman, N.J.) forcing three
herself. Marino also picked up a career-best six ground balls.
Sophomore Siobhan Sullivan (Franklin/Franklin, Mass.) caused two
turnovers and tallied a game-high four draw controls.
Senior Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) won her third
straight game in goal. She made seven saves--including five in the
second half--while leading all players with seven ground balls.
Ithaca continues Empire 8 play tomorrow with a home matchup with
Hartwick. The game is set for 1 p.m.
