Amherst's Trapp Named NESCAC Player of Week
from press release
AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College junior Kelley Trapp
(Monterey, CA) has earned the first NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Player
of the Week honor of 2010, the conference announced today. Trapp
led the Lord Jeffs (1-0/1-0 NESCAC) to an 11-8 victory at
ninth-ranked Tufts University (0-1/0-1 NESCAC) this past
Saturday.
Trapp helped Amherst snap its two-game losing streak against Tufts
by assisting on the Jeffs' first five goals and scoring their sixth
to help them carry a 6-3 lead into halftime. The Jumbos made it a
6-4 game early in the second half, but Trapp responded with her
second goal of the game to bring Amherst's lead back to three. The
Jeffs added another three goals to take a 10-4 advantage, with
Trapp picking up her sixth assist to give her eight points on the
day. Tufts rallied late but could not complete the comeback.
In four career games against Tufts, Trapp has totaled six goals and
11 assists for an average of 4.25 points per contest. After scoring
21 goals and assisting on seven others as a first-year, she
finished second on the team in scoring (16-17-33) as a sophomore.
Trapp is the first Amherst player to be named NESCAC Player of the
Week since Amy Craig '09 earned the honor twice in March of
2008.
Trapp's eight points were the most among any player in the NESCAC's
opening weekend. The Lord Jeffs will return to action Tuesday, Mar.
16, when they take on Manhattanville College (0-3) in the West Palm
Beach Spring Fling.
