Scranton Women Name Quad Captains
from press releases
SCRANTON, Pa. - Becky Davis, head women's lacrosse coach
at The University of Scranton, has announced that seniors Amy
Arnold (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees), Meaghan Grenaldo (Silver
Spring, Md./James H. Blake), Cassie Murphy (Wantagh,
N.Y./MacArthur), and Katie Oehl (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) will
serve as team captains for the upcoming 2010 season.
All four played a major role on a Scranton defensive unit that held
seven opponents under 10 goals during the 2009 season. The
Royals are coming off an 8-7 season, which included their
first-ever appearance in the Landmark Conference tournament.
After a 1-3 start, Scranton won four straight and seven of its last
11 games to post its first winning season since 2006 and the
seventh in the program's 10-year history.
In the past three seasons, Arnold has appeared in 44 games and has
55 ground balls, 10 draw controls and 36 caused
turnovers. During this same span, Grenaldo and Oehl
have each played in 41 games.
Grenaldo is coming off her most productive season, having caused 17
turnovers and scooped up 21 ground balls, while Oehl had 12 ground
balls and 10 caused turnovers last spring to bring her career
totals to 62 and 36, respectively.
Murphy has started in goal in each of the past two seasons and
enters the upcoming season with 16 victories, a 10.42 goals against
average, and 241 saves in 34 career games.
The Royals will open their 2010 season this Wednesday, March 3,
against Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania, beginning at
4:00 p.m.
