Mary Washington Women Pound No. 19 Roanoke

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Sophomore All-Americans Catherine
Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) and Allie Kimmelman
(Burke, Va., Robinson) combined for eight goals and four assists to
lead the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a
17-9 victory over 19th-ranked Roanoke College on Monday at Disney's
Wide World of Sports Complex. Junior Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas,
Cy-Creek) added three goals and two asists for the Eagles,
who even their season record at 1-1, while the Maroons fall to
0-1.
The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes, as
freshman Sara Donatich (Melville, N.Y., Walt Whitman) scored a pair
of goals, and Wallis added another. After Roanoke cut the deficit
to 3-2, UMW reeled off five straight goals to take an 8-2 lead.
Senior Brittany Butler (Easton, Conn., Joel Barlow) scored a pair
of goals, followed by scores by Lauren Callison (Stevensville, Md.,
Kent Island), Kennedy, and Kimmelman. Roanoke cut the score to 8-4
at halftime.
Wallis and Kimmelman added goals in the opening minutes of the
second half to move the score to 10-6, and then Kennedy scored
three straight goals to give UMW a 13-6 advantage with 15:58 to
play. The Eagles scored four of the final seven tallies for the
17-9 win.
The Eagles outshot the Maroons, 34-29, and had 18 ground balls.
Freshman goalie Leigh Ann Redefer (Lewes, Del., Cape Henlopen) had
11 saves for the Eagles, while Casey Esloon had 12 saves for
Roanoke.
Mary Washington will take on St. John Fisher College on Friday at
10:00 a.m. in Kissimmee.
