Plymouth State Hires Blanchette
from press releases
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State University has announced an
addition to its coaching staff with the naming of a new head
women's lacrosse coach.
Kristin Blanchette has been appointed the new PSU women's lacrosse
coach. A 2006 graduate of the University of New Hampshire,
where she was a team captain and four-year starter, Blanchette was
the assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts Amherst last
year after serving two years as assistant coach at Brown
University. She takes over for Abi Jackson, who is now the
head coach of women's soccer and women's lacrosse at Roger Williams
University.
Blanchette, who is currently playing for the Irish National Team at
the World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic, has gained valuable
experience in her three seasons as an assistant coach. She
has also worked at numerous lacrosse camps and clinics and was a
member of the United States Development Team from 2005-07.
"We had an outstanding pool of candidates for our women's lacrosse
position," said PSU athletic director John P. Clark, "but Kristin
Blanchette was very impressive to the committee and is a good fit
for our program. She has outstanding experience and a passion
for the game, and her success in the sport of lacrosse speaks for
itself. We are excited to welcome Kristin to PSU as our new
women's lacrosse coach and have full confidence that she will do a
top-notch job."
A four-year starter at midfield for UNH and team captain as a
senior, Blanchette helped the Wildcats to national rankings in 2004
and 2005, including a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2004.
She earned America East All-Conference First Team honors in 2006,
when she was also a Regional All-Star and was selected to play in
the prestigious North/South Senior All-Star game. A native of
Sudbury, Mass., Blanchette is also the older sister of former PSU
defender Stephanie Blanchette (2004-07).
"It is an honor to become the new women's lacrosse coach at
Plymouth State," said Blanchette. "I'm very excited to see
the possibilities that are in the program's future. I feel
it's a great fit for me and I'm thrilled to have this
opportunity. I look forward to meeting the members of the
team and getting to work."
