TCNJ Edges Rowan; Pfluger Wins 350th

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The College of New Jersey
women's lacrosse team defeated Rowan University, 5-3 for the first
New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship on Thursday
night.
TCNJ, ranked fourth in the nation, has a record of 15-2. The Lions
were undefeated with a 4-0 mark in the first year of the conference
for women's lacrosse. The win was head coach Sharon Pfluger's 350th
victory at the college. In her 23rd season, Pfluger has a won-loss
record of 350-30-1. The Profs finished the season 8-8 overall and
3-1 in the NJAC.
Midfielder Kathleen Notos (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) led
the Lions with two goals. Attack Lisa Seldeen (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne
Hills), midfielder Jackie Riley (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) and
defender Kelly Mitchell (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) each scored
once. Attack Rachel Gordon (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.)
contributed with an assist.
For Rowan, midfielders Carly Welsh (sr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) and Ali
Goodman (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and attack Alli Dickey (so.
Stevensville, MD/Kent School) scored one goal apiece. Attack Kelly
Angstadt (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) registered one
assist.
TCNJ totaled 16 shots while Rowan took 15. Goalie Mary Waller (so.
Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) made nine saves for the Lions. In the
Profs' net, goalie Alicia Mannino (sr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan
Catholic) stopped six shots.
After the first half, The College of New Jersey was ahead 2-1.
Seldeen started the scoring with an unassisted goal at 22:59.
Dickey tied the score at 24:20 with a free position goal. Riley hit
the net 51 seconds later.
Welsh's goal came at 37:43 and the score was tied at two. The Lions
followed with three straight goals for a 5-2 advantage. Mitchell
had the first on a free position (39:29) then Notos scored two in a
row. Her first came on a pass from Gordon (40:32) and the second
was unassisted (44:06). Goodman scored the final goal on an assist
from Angstadt at 53:20.
