from press releases
GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Faced with its toughest test of the season, The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team turned in its gutsiest performance as the Lions rallied for an 11-10 victory on Sunday at Gettysburg College.
The second-ranked Lions remained undefeated on the year at 9-0, while the fourth-ranked Bullets lost for the first time dropping to 10-1.
TCNJ trailed 7-4 in the early part of the second half, but chipped away tie the game at both eight and nine goals apiece. The Lions took their first lead of the game at 10-9 as Rachel Gordon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) scored her lone marker of the game with 4:35 remaining. Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) then tallied a much-needed insurance goal with 1:13 left for a two-goal cushion.
That goal proved pivotal as the Bullets added one more goal in the final minute.
Gettysburg got the early jump on the Lions scoring the game's first five goals, but TCNJ stormed right back reeling off four straight. Lisa Seldeen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) got the Lions started and Robin Deehan (Morris Plains, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth), Jaeger, and Kelly Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) each followed with a goal making it a 5-4 game.
The Bullets added one more goal before the half to claim a 6-4 advantage.
Deehan paced TCNJ with three goals, while Jaeger and Seldeen each finished with a pair. Senior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River) contributed with three assists.
Sophomore Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) notched her ninth win of the season making eight saves.
