Bombers Upend No. 14 Cortland, 13-12

ITHACA, N.Y. - Nicole Borisenok scored the
game-winning goal with one minute, 53 seconds remaining in
regulation as the Ithaca women's lacrosse team upended nationally
14th-ranked Cortland, 13-12, Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons
fell to 2-4 with the setback, while the Bombers improved to
3-2.
For Cortland, senior Danielle Torre (Massapequa) set career highs
with nine points and six goals. Sophomore Brianna Shost (Mahopac)
added three goals, and sophomores Alyssa Hoover (Baldwin) and Megan
Clare (Shirley/William Floyd) and freshman Lindsay Abbott (South
Onondaga/Onondaga Central) chipped in with one goal each. Abbott
also contributed three assists and Clare recorded two assists.
Freshman goalie Amanda Caloia (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) stopped
nine shots.
Kylie McClure led the Bombers with five goals. Catherine Hurley had
three goals and an assist, Becky Bedard registered two goals and an
assist and Borisenok also collected an assist to go with her
game-winning tally. Courtney Dowell made 12 saves in the game.
Ithaca jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Torre netted back-to-back
scored at 22:12 and 20:13 to cut the lead to 4-2. After the Bombers
made it 5-2, the Red Dragons took the lead with a four-goal run
sparked by Shost's three scores. Ithaca answered with three in a
row, two from McClure, to take an 8-6 lead, but Torre ended the
half with her fourth of the game at the 1:46 mark to make it an 8-7
game.
The teams traded the first six goals of the second half and Ithaca
led, 11-10, with 13:23 remaining in regulation. Abbott tied the
game at 12:22, but McClure gave the lead back to the Bombers at
6:28. Torre then netted her sixth of the game at 3:23 to tie the
score at 12-all, setting up Borisenok's game winner.
