No. 4 TCNJ Fends Off FDU-Florham

EWING, N.J. - The College of New Jersey women's
lacrosse team withstood a late challenge by visiting FDU-Florham on
Tuesday as the Lions scored the game's final four goals to secure a
17-10 win over the Devils in their season opener.
The Lions (1-0), ranked fourth in the latest ICWLA Division III
poll, saw FDU-Florham (1-2) take a six-goal deficit and quickly cut
it in half before TCNJ called a timeout with 8:35 remaining. At
that time, the Lions clung to a 13-10 lead after Devil senior
Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) netted a pair of quick
goals.
After the timeout, the Lions gained possession on the draw and went
on to score two goals within 12 seconds to push the margin quickly
back to five. Senior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River
North) netted the first of those with junior Lisa Seldeen (Wayne,
NJ/Wayne Valley) getting the other. The hosts tacked on two more
goals in the final two minutes to seal the win with sophomore
Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) and senior Rachel
Gordon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) accounting for those
scores.
In the opening half, TCNJ scored six of the game's first seven
goals with sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) scoring
three of those.
The hosts went on to hold a 9-6 lead at the half with the Devils
closing out the first 30 minutes on a 3-0 run.
Mitchell led the Lions with five goals and two assists, while
Jaeger had a solid effort with three goals and one assists.
Reuther, Seldeen, Gordon, and Robin Deehan (Morris Plains,
NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) rounded out the attack for TCNJ with
two goals apiece.
Wayne had a big game for FDU-Florham with four goals, while Lindsey
Parent (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had a pair.
In goal for the Lions, sophomore Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton
Wright) finished with four saves, while for the Devils, Christine
Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) had nine.
