CLINTON, N.Y. - Nationally ranked No. 1 Hamilton
College scored the first seven goals and the Continentals went on
to a 15-6 non-league win over Nazareth College at Campus Road
Athletic Field on March 10.
Hamilton was playing its season opener while Nazareth dropped to
1-1. The Continentals have won 20 straight games dating back to
early in the 2008 season, and 23 in a row at home. Hamilton has won
three straight games against the Golden Flyers and the Continentals
now lead the all-time series, 5-4.
Sarah Bray '11 and Liz Rave '10 scored four goals each in the win.
Kaillie Briscoe '09 was credited with four assists. Her third,
which set up Hilary Saverin '10 for a strike, was the 100th of her
career. She is the first Continental in program history to surpass
the 100-mark. Saverin finished the game with three goals.
Hamilton sprinted out to a 7-0 lead after just 19:18 of play. Bray
scored the eventual game-winner on a diving shot after a spin move.
Briscoe was credited with the assist.
Kate Fowler '10 was steady in goal for the Continentals, and
was credited with nine saves. Fowler made back-to-back
point-blank stops in the opening minutes of the contest to keep the
Golden Flyers at bay.
Nazareth finally found the back of the net with 7:55 to go in the
first. Fowler answered with an offensive set-up of her own.
She found a speedy Bray with a lead on her defender at
midfield and heaved a leading pass over the defense to set Bray up
for a goal with 6:06 to go in the first. Fowler also picked up
three ground balls in the win.
Rave closed out the first-half scoring with ten seconds to go to
give Hamilton a 9-1 advantage at the break. Hamilton outscored
Nazareth 6-5 in the second to pick up the win. Kriti Dave '11
picked up one goal, one assist, and two ground balls. The hosts
enjoyed a 26-18 advantage in shots and a 23-15 edge in ground
balls.
