No. 4 Limestone Women Beat Pfeiffer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Already riding a program record streak of four straight games with 20 or more goals, No. 4 Limestone (15-1, 6-0 CC) extended that stretch to five as they dispatched No. 4 seed Pfeiffer (9-8, 4-2 CC) 20-10 in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Tournament to advance to the championship game tomorrow afternoon.
Senior attack Racquel Prager (Seaford, N.Y.) led all scorers with six goals, one shy of her career-high, and Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year midfielder Sam McCarrick (Oswego, N.Y.) finished with four goals and an assist.
Junior attack Chelsea Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) and senior attack Sylvia Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y.) each added two goals and an assist and sophomore midfielder Jessica Aguanno (Delray Beach, Fla.) and junior midfielder Jessie Aguglia (Webster, N.Y.) notched a goal and an assist apiece. Senior goalkeeper Brigid Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.) played all 60 minutes between the pipes, making 10 saves and allowing 10 goals to improve to 14-1 on the year.
After exchanging goals on the first two possessions, the Saints exploded for six straight scores to make it 7-1 before the Falcons responded with a 4-2 run to make it 9-5 at half. Limestone picked up the first two goals of the second half to make it 11-5 in the first two minutes but Pfeiffer notched a pair of scores to cut the deficit back to four at 11-7 with 27:12 to play.
Another dominant stretch by the Saints offense, this time seven straight goals, put the game well out of reach, giving them an 18-7 lead. A pair of goals within the final two minutes then got them to 20 and the Falcons added a late goal to reach the final margin of 20-10.
Shannon Bonnel led Pfeiffer with two goals and an assist while Sarah Daly and Liz Melesh each finished with a pair of scores. Kristina Anderson and Britton Muir each added a goal and an assist while Rachel Hebberd and Nadia Salameh each had a goal. Jamie Alcala started and played 50:52, giving up 12 goals and making four saves to take the loss and drop to 5-5 on the season.
Limestone advances to the 2012 Conference Carolinas Championship Game on Sunday, April 22. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C. and will be against either Queens or Belmont Abbey.
The Saints have now notched 20 or more goals in each of their last five games, extending the program record.
