NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack women's lacrosse program has signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period for the class of 2015.

"These four student-athletes truly embody our goals and aspirations as a rising team in Division-II women's lacrosse," said head coach Corinne Baker, who enters her fourth season at Merrimack. "I am confident they will push us to the next level as we continue to compete against the best teams in the country."

In 2010, Merrimack won a school-record 12 games, earning a national-ranking for the first time ever, while winning a program-best nine straight games.

Baker on Coakley: "Olivia will help us fill some graduation gaps on our defensive line. She is athletic with a solid stick and really works the transition well. We will look to develop her for numerous roles on the field and utilize her in various positions. Her looks in clearing combined with her hard-work ethic make her the perfect player for us to help lead a young defensive end."

Kelly Metzger, M (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull)
Born August 8, 1993...three-year varsity lacrosse player at Trumbull High School...nominated as a super junior in Connecticut...senior captain...honor roll student.

Baker on Metzger: "Kelly is a great catch for us in the midfield. She plays both sides of the game well and is a player that embodies the mentality of supporting the ball wherever she is on the field. She brings a height to our center circle that will be especially useful for us in winning a large percentage of the draw controls."

Giulia Palombo, A/M (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy)

Born July 9, 1992...two-time Maritime League All-Star at Bishop Stang High School...transferred to Tabor Academy as a junior, earning NEPSWLA League All-Star honors...also lettered in field hockey and basketball...New England Select Lacrosse League participant

Baker on Palombo: "Guilia is a game-changer. Her vision of the field and breakdown of the play is incredibly fast. She is aggressive to the cage and is extremely savvy in setting up teammates to finish. Her quickness will ensure a tough ride defensively. She will make an immediate impact on our scoring line with her stick work and her shooting."

Katie Trahanas, A (Needham, MA, Lake Brantley)

Born November 30, 1992...US Lacrosse Southeast Region National team selection...first-team all-conference and all-central Florida...State Championship record-holder for goals in a game, in a tournament and caused turnovers in a game...team attacker of the year...Rookie of the Year honoree.

Baker on Trahanas: "Katie is another big-time player. A tall attacker with a fantastic stick, her feeds set others up perfectly, and she is constantly moving for the next play. With her game sense and physical advantages over other players, she will be a major point-producer for us right out of the gate. Katie sets herself apart with a power shot that few have. She's had a tremendous high school career down south and she will continue to improve her game up here in New England."
