No. 5 Limestone Trims No. 7 Mars Hill

GAFFNEY, S.C. — Teddy Pragers' (Seaford, N.Y.)
unassisted goal, his second of the game, at the 1:23 mark of
overtime lifted fifth-ranked Limestone to a 10-9 victory over
seventh-ranked Mars Hill in a key NCAA Division II south region
showdown at "The Rock" Saturday. The outcome moves Limestone to 3-1
on the season and 3-0 within the region while Mars Hill is 4-2
overall including an in-region mark of 3-1.
Limestone's Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, MD) capped a wild second half
and fourth quarter by scoring the game tying goal with only 0:17
remaining in regulation sweeping in a shot off a rebound as the
ball sat at the edge of crease to tie the contest at 9-9 forcing
the extra season. Poerstel's fourth goal of the game closed out a
second half that saw five ties and a pair of lead changes.
The teams combined for five goals in the fourth period, the first
by Mars Hill's Chris Cudmore (Whitby, Ontario) on an assist from
Dalton Jernigan(Smithsburg, MD) to tie the contest at 7-7 with
14:40 to play. Limestone responded less than two minutes later
reclaiming the lead at 8-7 on an unassisted goal from Randy Waugh
(Severna Park, MD).
The Lions tied the game at 8-8 exactly two minutes later, that with
10:49 to go, on TJ Cowx's (Delta, British Columbia) unassisted
goal, he also had two assists. Mars Hill would then take the lead
in an extra-man situation with 4:16 left when Danny Farmer
(Calgary, Alberta) found the back of the net after taking the feed
from his brother Tyler Farmer (Calgary, Alberta) who also score
twice, giving the Lions a 9-8 lead before the Saints' Poerstel
scooped in the game equalizer with only 0:17 remaining.
Limestone, which overcame a pair of two-goal deficits, outshot the
Lions 40-16 with Mars Hill keeper Dylan Price (York, PA) making 13
saves. The Saints held a 15-23 advantage at the center 'x" with
Sean Bennett (East Moriches, N.Y.) taking all the face-offs for
Limestone which also had the edge in groundballs at 23-17, Jeff
Santo (Timonium, MD) led the Saints with four while Kevin Woods
(New Market, Ontario) paced the Lions with as many. Limestone was
also perfect on clears going 14-for-14, Mars Hill 19-of-26. As for
turnovers, the Saints had 14 compared to 23 for Mars Hill. In
addition to his game high total of four goals Mike Poerstel also
collected a game best four caused turnovers.
Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia) added two goals for the
Saints while Brian Patridge (Columbus, OH) and Randy Waugh (Severna
Park, MD) each tallied one and assisted on two others while Jake
Rogalia (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Sean Bennett added one assist
each.
Mars Hill's scoring attack was led by Eric Benesch's (Bloomingdale,
Ontario) three goals.
Mars Hill returns to action at Rollins (Winter Park, FL) on
Wednesday, March 17 at 4:00 p.m. Limestone, which began a four game
stretch Saturday against teams the entered the weekend a combined
17-3, will host Lees-McRae on Thursday, March 18 at 4:00 p.m.
