No. 4 Limestone Blasts Past No. 10 Gannon

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The No. 4- ranked Limestone College
women's lacrosse team defeated No. 10 Gannon University 19-6 on
Sunday afternoon at Saints Field. The Golden Knights start their
season with a 0-1 record as Limestone climbs to 3-0.
The Saints jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first five minutes, but
Gannon managed to tie the score by the 20:00 mark. Limestone
stepped up its game and responded with five goals, and held the
visitors scoreless until four minutes into the second half. The
hosts held a 7-3 scoring advantage in the opening period. The Saint
defense only gave up three goals to the Golden Knights in the
second period as Limestone's attack recorded 12 more goals for the
19-6 win.
Chelsea Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) led Limestone with six goals as she
was 4-5 on free-position attempts. Renee Albro (Purcellville,
Va.) scored five as Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) had a hat
trick and Katie Ilott (Brooklin, Ontario, Canada) scored twice.
Three more Saints scored in the win. Jessica Williams (Farmingdale,
N.Y.) dished out two assists as Casey Wilcox (Liverpool, N.Y.) had
one.
Goalkeeper Brigid Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.) posted nine saves.
Ilott and Treat had four and three draw controls, respectively.
Ilott and Oterson had two caused turnovers apiece.
Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y.) led Gannon with three goals as Taryn
Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y.) chipped in two. Kayla Nelson (Oswego,
N.Y.) tallied four assists. Acacia Cook (Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded 7
saves in goal. Millerd and Jess Fugate (Wooster, Ohio) each had
three draw controls.
Limestone won 14 of the game's 27 draw controls and outshot the
Golden Knights 35-15. The Saints also held the 20-11 advantage in
ground balls. Gannon was12-15 in clears as Limestone was 19-21.
Gannon heads to Due West, S.C., to play Erskine College on March 3
at 3 p.m. Limestone hosts Regis College on March 8 at 4 p.m. at
Saints Field.
