No. 1 Adelphi Women Cruise Past Rollins

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. -- Junior Elizabeth Fey
tallied four goals and two assists in her debut game with the No.
1-ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team as they cruised
to a 20-7 victory over Rollins College Friday afternoon. The
Panthers open with a 1-0 record, while the Tars fall to 1-1.
Fey got lots of help from a solid supporting crew with nine players
scoring in the win. Junior Michelle Ceraso tallied the first of her
two goals in the second minute of play. Freshman Demmianne Cook
made it a 2-0 game on a free position goal at 24:33 and 11 seconds
later sophomore Erica Devito scored on a feed from sophomore
Marissa Mills. Rollins rallied baack scoring back to back goals to
make it a 3-2 game at 21:04. Freshman Claire Petersen notched two
of her three goals in a 6-0 Panther run, 9-2, through the 10:17
mark. The Tars snuck in one more goal before the Panthers rattled
off five unanswered goals to hold a 14-3 lead at intermission.
Rollins opened the second half with two more goals but Adelphi
responded with three straight. Fey tallied her final goal on a free
position shot with 12:50 remaining in the contest, 17-5. Marissa
Giannerini scored three of her four goals in the second half with
her last coming at 6:14, 18-7. Senior Danielle Kafarski had the
last word as she found the back of the net for the second time on
an assist from Fey with just nine seconds left on the clock.
The Tars held a slight 34-30 shot advantage over the Panthers, but
senior goalie Caitlin Fitzpatrick made 14 saves in the contest.
Alyssa Emens made six stops in the loss with Cat Kelly making one
save in the final 22:45.
The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, February 28, as they
travel to Richmond, Virginia to take on Belmont Abbey at 1:00 p.m.
