No. 4 Limestone Women Blow Out Queens

GAFFNEY, S.C.-- The Limestone College women's lacrosse team dominated for a 17-5 win over Queens University of Charlotte in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field. The Saints, ranked No. 4 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association preseason NCAA Division II poll, stand at 1-0 on the season as the Royals begin their season with a 0-1 record.
Limestone was led by Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.) and Katie Ilott (Brooklin, Ontario, Canada), who each scored five goals. Ilott was 3-3 on her free-position attempts. Jessica Williams (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tallied a hat trick as Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), Chelsea Caiazza (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), Kristen Demarzi (Huntington, N.Y.), and Raquel Prager (Seaford, N.Y.) also scored. Britt Howard (Oswego, N.Y.), Oterson, and Casey Wilcox (Liverpool, N.Y.) had assists.
Ilott had a team-high five draw controls as Albro won three. Skylar Marcoux (Woodbine, Md.) and Albro recorded three ground balls apiece.
Goalkeeper Brigid Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.) had 10 saves in the first 50 minutes for the Saints while Rashelle McLellan (East Lyme, Conn.) posted 2 saves in the final 10 minutes.
Queens' Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn.) led the Royals with two goals. Caitlin Flanagan (West Islip, N.Y.), Brittany Philip (Painted Post, N.Y.), and Shannon Casey (Bel Air, Md.) each had two ground balls. Goalie Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md.) recorded 9 saves.
Limestone had an 11-1 lead at the end of the first half and outscored the visitors 6-4 in the second period for the win. The Saints had 18 draw controls to the Royals' 6 and Limestone outshot Queens 32-19. Limestone was 16-18 in clears as the Royals were 9-12.
The Saints host Lees-McRae College on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Saints Field. The Royals travel to Misenheimer, N.C., to face Pfeiffer University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
