Limestone Gets Test From St. Andrew's

The No. 4-ranked Limestone College Lady Saints edged St. Andrews
15-14 in their home lacrosse opener on Friday afternoon at Saints
Field. Limestone stands at 1-0 overall (1-0 Conference Carolinas)
as the Knights even their record to 1-1 overall (1-1
conference).
Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) scored four goals for the Lady
Saints. Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) and Lauryn Wise
(Pasadena, Md.) scored three goals apiece. Melissa Howard
(Ferndale, Md.) dished out three assists and added one goal. Wise
also tallied an assist and had three caused turnovers. Howard and
Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.) recorded three ground balls each.
Brigid Michling (Cockeysville, Md.) posted eight saves in her
collegiate debut in goal.
The Knights' Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) had a game-high six
points from three goals and three assists. Kelsey Binggeli (Newark,
N.Y.) scooped up three ground balls. Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.)
had two caused turnovers and goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero,
N.Y.) posted 11 saves.
Limestone took the 1-0 lead after a goal by Wise at 25:37. However,
St. Andrews had two back-to-back goals from Binggeli and another
from Brown to take the 3-1 lead. Limestone regained the lead after
four straight goals, including two by Oterson. Following Brown's
goal for the Knights at the 11:34 mark, Limestone had goals from
Oterson and Dani Tosky (Bluffton, S.C.) to lead 7-4 at the end of
the half.
The Knights held the 10-8 scoring edge in the second period.
Limestone gained a five-point lead (14-9) with roughly nine minutes
left to play in the game, but St. Andrews saw Binggeli, Katie
Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.), Brown, and Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.) score
to cut Limestone's advantage to one. The Knights tied the game
14-14 after a free-position goal from McDaniel. Ilott scored the
game-winner on a free-position attempt with only 1:57 left to play,
and Oterson won the game's final draw control as Limestone
maintained possession in the closing moments of the contest.
St. Andrews held the 34-30 edge on shots, but Limestone had the
advantage with ground balls, 18-13. The Knights were 10-11 on
clears as the Lady Saints were 13-17. Limestone had 12 turnovers
compared to St. Andrews' 11.
