Napoli, Post Coast Past New Haven

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Senior attacker Jaclyn Napoli
(West Islip, N.Y.) scored a game-high seven goals as second-ranked
C.W. Post defeated the University of New Haven, 16-7, in the NCAA
Division II Women's Lacrosse East Regional Saturday afternoon on
Hickox Field.
With the win the Pioneers advance to semifinal round of the NCAA
Championships and will play East Coast Conference opponent Adelphi
University in Salem, Va. on May 16. New Haven, who captured
the Northeast-10 championship title to advance to the tournament,
concludes its season with a 16-4 overall record.
Junior midfielder Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.)
registered six points on two goals and four assists for the
Pioneers.
New Haven attackers Sarah Magnone and Brianna Kenworthy each scored
two goals to lead the Charger offense.
The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead through the first three and a half
minutes of play with goals from senior midfielder Katie Hogan
(Farmingdale, N.Y.), Napoli and freshman attacker Ashley Olen (East
Islip, N.Y.). Passafiume provided assists on all three
goals.
C.W. Post extended its lead to 8-0 with 5:16 left to play in the
first half with two more goals from Napoli and
Passafiume.
New Haven came back in the game to put three goals on the board
with under four minutes to play. The first Charger goal was
recorded at 3:28 from Magnone on a feed from junior attacker Sarah
Magnone (Yardley, Pa.). The Chargers closed out the
half with a goal from senior attacker Brigid Brady (Islip Terrace,
N.Y.) and junior midfielder Sarah LeGoff (Manorville, N.Y.).
Olen tallied her third goal of the game just over two minutes into
the second half. New Haven countered with a free-position goal
from senior attacker Brianna Kenworthy (Holden, Mass.).
Napoli and Olen scored back-to-back goals that pushed the Pioneers'
lead to 12-4 with 25:41 left to play in regulation.
Kenworthy added her second goal of the game unassisted at
24:26.
Napoli scored her fifth goal on a free-position shot at 21:46
followed by a goal from freshman midfielder Lauren Spagnoletta
(West Islip, N.Y.) at 15:14 to give the Pioneers a 14-5
advantage.
New Haven scored its sixth goal from Magnone on a free-position
shot at 11:30.
Napoli netted two more goals for C.W. Post as the final minutes of
play wound down. New Haven's Mallory Ferrandiz scored the
game's final goal with 1:46 left to play.
Sophomore Sam Powers (Holbrook, N.Y.) made 14 saves in goal to
improve her record to 16-2 in goal. Senior defender Jesse
Wolff (West Islip, N.Y.) helped out on defense with two caused
turnovers. New Haven's Maureen Spellman (Trumbull, Conn.) made
13 stops in goal.
C.W. Post outshot New Haven, 38-33 and held a 16-4 ground ball
advantage.
