Dartmouth's Jaclyn Leto Named Epoch/LM Player of Week
Dartmouth senior midfielder Jaclyn Leto has had big games before. Her career-high eight goals against Boston University earlier this month come to mind. But none of those performances came in as big of a win as the Big Green nabbed Sunday.
Leto scored six goals and caused a crucial turnover in the final seconds as Dartmouth held on for a 10-9 upset of then-No. 15 Penn, the perennial Ivy League powerhouse, to earn Epoch/Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week honors.
Leto, a two-time first-team All-Ivy League midfielder, reached 130 goals and 150 points for her career. But Big Green coach Amy Patton pointed to Leto's clutch defense at the end of the game, batting down a Nina Corcoran feed by lunging with her stick into the passing lane to seal Dartmouth's first win over the Quakers since 2012.
"That was the biggest play of the day for our team," Patton said. "Jac is a silent leader and has become one of the most well-rounded players in our program's history, which is saying a lot."
Said Leto: "I wanted that ball more than they did."
