Duke's Maddie Crutchfield Named Epoch/LM Player of the Week
In a season previously defined by surprising setbacks to Elon and Georgetown — not to mention losses to Northwestern and USC — the Blue Devils altered the script significantly Saturday by blowing out previously undefeated and fifth-ranked Louisville 16-5. Crutchfield, a 5-foot-8 sophomore midfielder who came in with a modest eight goals and four assists in eight previous games, exploded for a Duke-record six assists to go with three goals to earn Epoch/Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week honors.
Crutchfield added a game-high four draw controls in the victory, which propelled the Blue Devils back above .500 at 5-4 and to 2-0 atop the ACC. Duke should get an opportunity to pad its record against Villanova and Columbia before entering a season-ending ACC gauntlet starting March 26 against Virginia. The Blue Devils face Syracuse, Boston College, Notre Dame and North Carolina after that.
