North Carolina junior midfielder Maggie Bill, an IWLCA second-team All-American in 2015, has opted to redshirt her 2016 season after also redshirting the 2015 soccer season. The two-sport standout did not play for the Tar Heels in the first two games of the season against James Madison and High Point. UNC won both games by a combined 16 goals.

In 2015, Bill started all 22 games for the NCAA runner-up and tallied 32 goals, 17 assists, 23 ground balls and 27 draw controls. Against Maryland in the national championship, she scored a team-high three goals and added two assists. Bill was named to both the ACC and NCAA All-Tournament teams and was a member of the 2014-15 and 2015-16 U.S. women's national team.

Bill will continue practicing lacrosse and soccer, and return to competition in both sports in 2016-17.

"When we recruited Maggie, we expressed that redshirting was a likelihood at some point during her career," said UNC coach Jenny Levy following the team's 17-5 victory over High Point. "Competing at a high level at a quality school like North Carolina is challenging enough for many single-sport athletes who utilize a redshirt year, let alone a two-sport athlete who is a member of two championship-caliber teams."

"We fully support a decision for her to redshirt this spring," Levy added. "Maggie remains a big part of this team and we look forward to two more years with her on the field starting in 2017."
