Defending NCAA Division I women's lacrosse champion Maryland is the top-ranked team in the IWLCA Division I Coaches Preseason Poll that was released Monday.

The Terps, also ranked No. 1 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top 20, earned 20 first-place votes. North Carolina and Syracuse, both 2015 NCAA semifinalists, follow Maryland in the top three as the IWLCA's No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, as they did in the Nike/LM preseason rankings. No. 4 Duke, also a returning final four contender, and No. 5 Northwestern, whose final four 10-year streak was snapped last season, round out the top five.

In pursuit of a three-peat, Maryland opens its season against William & Mary at home on Feb. 13.

The IWLCA also released its Division II and III Preseason Polls, with Adelphi and Cortland leading as No. 1 in their respective divisions.
