Fairfield Stags Top Siena, 15-8

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sophomore Julieanne Mascera and freshman Alex Fehmel each recorded hat tricks to power the Fairfield University women's lacrosse team to a 15-8 victory over Siena College this afternoon on Lessing Field. It is the fifth-straight win for the Stags who improve to 4-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and 9-3 overall.
Mascera also added an assist for a four point day. In all, nine different Stags scored against the Saints. Reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week Riley Hellstein had two goals, an assist, and three draw controls while Melanie Raso had two goals.Jenna Slowey and Jamie Leone each added a goal and two assists. Kelly Camardo tallied her first collegiate points with a goal and an assist. Riley Smith and Colleen Reynoldsrounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Fairfield got on the board just 34 seconds into the game on an unassisted tally by Fehmel. Siena's Alyssa Treanor answered at 27:01 to tie the game. Raso put home a pass from Leone at 22:57 to return the lead to the Stags. Hellstein made it a two-goal game at the 18:41 mark. Despite controlling much of the first half play, Siena (3-9; 1-3 MAAC) went into the break trailing 6-4.
The Stags received free position goals from Reynolds and Mascera in the first four minutes of the second half to open up an 8-4 lead. After a goal by the Saints' Kate Callahan at 17:12, Fairfield posted five unanswered goals for a commanding 13-5 advantage. The Stags cruised to the 15-8 win.
Chelsey Sidaras made five saves for the Stags in 56:58 while Caleigh O'Connor played the final 3:02 and picked up a save.
The Stags had a 19-11 advantage in ground balls with Meghan Reda coming up with four of them while Smith had three.
Fairfield continues play on Lessing Field on April 16 when its hosts MAAC foe Quinnipiac University at 3pm.
