Robert Morris Soars to 16-9 Victory over LIU-Brooklyn

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse program took on LIU-Brooklyn in a Northeast Conference contest on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials downed the Blackbirds, 16-9, to sweep RMU's first NEC weekend homestand.

Robert Morris (8-3, 2-0 NEC) was led offensively by Jessica Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) who netted four goals while taking 11 shots and winning 17 draw controls.

The Colonials jumped out to a 2-0 lead over LIU-Brooklyn (2-9, 0-2 NEC) just 40 seconds into the match with two goals from Karwacki.

The Blackbirds responded with a pair of goals to tie the game, 2-2, five minutes into the first half.

Just 10 seconds after LIU-Brooklyn tied the contest, Karwacki recorded her third goal of the game to restore the lead for RMU and start the Colonials on a four-goal run. Two goals from Rhyan Bofinger (Dowingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) and a tally from Emily Jamison (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) put Robert Morris ahead, 6-2, with 17 minutes remaining in the half.

The Blackbirds ended RMU's run with a goal, but the Colonials responded with two more goals, a second from Jamison and a third from Bofinger, to increase the Colonials' advantage to five goals, 8-3, with five minutes remaining in the opening stanza.

LIU-Brooklyn closed out the first half with its fourth goal of the contest as the Colonials held an 8-4 advantage after 30 minutes of play.

RMU opened the second half with three goals in the first nine minutes of play as the Colonials held a 11-4 advantage with two goals from Corey Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford)and a marker from Jessica Rutherford (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford).

The Blackbirds stemmed the tie for a short time with a goal, but Robert Morris added two more goals from Rutherford to make the score 13-5 with less than 13 minutes remaining in the half.

LIU-Brooklyn responded with three goals, shrinking RMU's lead to five goals, 13-8, with eight minutes remaining in the game.

The two teams would exchange goals, making the score 14-9 with four minutes remaining as J. Karwacki scored her fourth goal of the contest.

The Colonials closed out the scoring with two goals in the final two minutes, one from Emma Baukhages (Gambrillis, Md. / Indian Creek) and the second from Katie Breeze(Ellicott City, Md. / Middletown) to make the final score 16-9.

Robert Morris will travel to Bryant for the Colonials' first NEC contest on the road scheduled for Friday at 3:00 p.m.
