from Press Release
DENVER – University of Denver women's lacrosse junior Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.)had a hat trick and five assists, propelling the Pioneers to a 20-4 victory over St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon, extending DU's winning streak to seven games.
Sophomore Sarah Kasun (Bel Air, Md.) added one goal and three assists for the Pioneers(9-1, 3-0 MPSF), while Rachael McKinnon (Brooklin, Ontario), Christa Reese(Lutherville, Md.) and Monica Lucas (Kensington, Md.) had three points each.
"I'm really excited about this win," head coach Liza Kelly said. "We had 12 different players with points during the game, highlighted by Jill's eight points. We also got some players who don't see a lot of playing time into the game. We had a lot of people put up some great numbers today. Now we need to focus on a tough California trip at Stanford and UC Davis next week."
Denver struck first, just 2:41 into the game on a free position goal by Rachael Dillon(Mount Sinai, N.Y.). St. Mary's (0-7, 0-3 MPSF) responded just 24 seconds later with Jaclyn Biggers scoring her first of three goals in the game.
The Pioneers responded with a 15-goal run, starting with a Remenapp goal with 25:14 remaining in the first half and stretching to the 16:46 mark in the second half.
Denver goalkeeper Hannah Hook (Arnold, Md.) made three saves and caused three turnovers before freshman Maddy Stevenson (Middleburg, Va.) took over for the second half and made three saves.
The Gaels made a run with three goals in just over 10 minutes of game time, but Kasun scored once and set up two goals, including the first career goal by junior Nikki Bracken(Highlands Ranch, Co.), in the final 3:29.
The Pioneers dominated 38-9 in shots, 15-9 in ground balls and 16-10 in draw controls, while converting on 6-of-9 free positions and going 12-for-12 on clear attempts.
