Albany Rolls Past Niagara, Now 8-0

NIAGARA, N.Y. -- University at Albany women's lacrosse (8-0) advanced to 8-0 entering conference play on Saturday, defeating Niagara (3-4) 19-9 on Monday afternoon. Nine different Great Danes scored, led by freshman Sarah Martin with four goals.

Katherine Sweeney started UAlbany scoring, tying the game up 1-1 early from Nichole Eamer. A four-goal Purple & Gold rally put John Battaglino's squad up 5-2 with eight minutes left in the first half, thanks to two goals from Rachel Bowles and one apiece for Allie Phelan and Dakotah Savitcheff.

Six unanswered goals put UAlbany up 11-3 at the half. After 20 minutes, Savitcheff led the Great Danes with three goals, while Bowles, Parker and Sweeney had two each. Phelan and Martin each had one goal to their credit.

The Great Danes continued firing in the second half, going up 16-4 with 15 minutes left in the game. In a five-goal second-half run, Julie Cryderman scored her first two goals of the season unassisted. Martin, Amanda Obenshain and Phelan also scored, unassisted.

Martin tallied two goals and Kenzie Neal scored her first career goal to wrap up scoring for the Great Danes.

In addition to the nine different UAlbany players that found that back of the cage, 11 different Great Danes recorded a goal or an assist; four recorded at least one of each. Three players recorded or matched a career-high in single-game points, including Martin (4), Cryderman (3) and Sweeney (2).

UAlbany out-shot the Purple Eagles 32-16 and scored four free position goals without allowing one for Niagara.

This week's America East Defensive Player of the Week Anna Berman took her 50th career win in goal with four saves and six goals against in 45 minutes of play.
