Marquette Takes 13-6 Win Over Winthrop

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's lacrosse team never trailed in a 13-6 victory over Winthrop on Sunday afternoon at a sunny Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles (4-5) were paced by three goals apiece from sophomore Claire Costanza and freshman Amanda Bochniak, while Hayley Baas and Taylor Smitheach added a pair of tallies. Costanza also contributed three assists.
Sophomore attack Shannon Gallagher posted two goals for Winthrop (3-6) and Camille King notched seven saves in the cage.
Marquette scored the first four goals of the game, courtesy of Bochniak and Costanza, and led by as many as 10 goals midway through the second half.
Bochniak got the Golden Eagles on the board first, just over one minute into regulation and MU led 9-1 after a dominating opening 30 minutes of play.
Marquette out-shot the Eagles 28-11, held a 12-7 edge in ground balls and corralled 14 of 21 draw controls.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, March 28 for their annual game in support of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's fight against pancreatic cancer.
