Temple Can't Catch LaSalle
from press release
PHILADELPHIA - After tying the game up early in the second half, Temple lacrosse was unable to convert its opportunities the rest of the way and dropped a 7-4 decision to visiting La Salle on Wednesday afternoon. The Owls (1-1) got a pair of goals from senior Jaymie Tabor, while the Explorers (2-0) had two players record hat tricks.
Both Claire Andrews and Caitlyn Brostrand put up three goals apiece for La Salle, with Andrews scoring two of her team's last three goals to put the game away.
Temple had more opportunities overall, particularly in the first half as the Owls out-shot the Explorers 14-7, but too many of those shots missed wide.
The Explorers had a 2-0 lead until Tabor's first goal in the 11th minute of action got Temple on the board. Just 39 seconds later, sophomore Nicole Tiernan tied the game, and the 2-2 tie would stand until just seven minutes remained in the half.
Brostrand completed her hat trick with three minutes to spare in the half to give La Salle a 4-2 advantage, but the Owls got one back before halftime when freshman Rachel Barile scored on a pass from sophomore Kirstie Connor.
With almost nine minutes elapsed in the second half, Tabor put her second goal in the net after taking her time on offense and waiting for her moment to make her move into the crease. Unfortunately for the Owls, it would be their last goal of the game.
Andrews scored her third goal with 3:47 remaining for a 6-4 La Salle lead, and within the next minute it appeared Temple got one back, but the goal was reversed after a stick check by the officials.
La Salle's Erin McCabe scored her team's final goal with 2:10 remaining. Temple had two more shots on goal, but both were saved by the Explorers' Gabby Antonelli. Antonelli picked up the win, making nine total saves.
Temple will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 23 when the Owls travel to Cornell for a 12:00 p.m. game.
