from press release
STORRS, Conn.- Morgan O'Reilly and Kacey Pippitt lifted the No. 18 UConn lacrosse team to a 12-11 overtime victory over Louisville on Sunday afternoon as the two upperclassmen combined for 13 points. The Huskies remain undefeated at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex and improve to 11-1 (4-1 BIG EAST) on the season, while the Cardinals fell to 9-5 and 0-5 in conference action.
Connecticut, now 4-2 all-time against the Cardinals, saw six Huskies find the back of the net with O'Reilly and Pippitt leading the way with three goals and four goals, respectively. O'Reilly ended the game with a team-best seven points as she added a team-high four assists on the afternoon, while Pippitt finished with six points following her four goals and two assists.
The Huskies trailed 6-3 at half but were able to outscore the Cardinals 8-5 in the second period. UConn scored the final four goals, including O'Reilly's last second shot in regulation to push the game into overtime. Louisville, who outshot UConn 20-19 on the day, held a one-goal advantage and won the draw control with three minutes left on the clock and looked like they were going to walk away with their first league win when Katie Oliverio turned the ball over behind the Louisville goal. Pippitt snatched the ground ball and dished it to O'Reilly who scored as the buzzer sounded.
The duo once again partnered up in overtime as Pippitt scored her first game-winner of the season on a pass from O'Reilly and set the final score at 12-11 to allow UConn to improve to 5-0 in Storrs.
Connecticut, winning 18-8 draw controls, also had Pippitt lead the team with five draw controls. Other Huskies scoring on Sunday included Karaline Smith, Carly Palmucci, Lauren Kahn and Catherine Gross.
Shannon Nee was the winning keeper for UConn and is now 9-1 after she made six saves on Sunday, while Louisville's Danielle Pawliw was the losing keeper after playing the six-minute overtime and allowing UConn's game-winner.
The Huskies continue their four-game home stretch next weekend when the squad hosts Marquette on Friday (4/19) at 7 p.m. and Notre Dame on Sunday (4/21) at noon. Connecticut will honor 12 seniors prior to Sunday's game.
