Lafayette Picks Up Key Patriot League Win Over Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette
women’s lacrosse team jumped out to a 7-3 lead at halftime
and never looked back, cruising to a critical 13-8 victory over
Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday afternoon. The Leopards are
currently tied for fourth in the Patriot League standings with two
league contests remaining.
A season-high five goals from junior Laura Kleiber paced the Leopards’ offense as senior Addie Godfrey and junior Ana White each added three scores and one assist, respectively. Seniors Jessica Rothstein and Katie Leto also notched tallies for the Maroon and White.
Ryan Wenk, Katelyn Miller and Adrienne Wendling each scored twice to lead the Bison attack. Lafayette held the edge in shots, 22-20, and ground balls, 19-15, while Bucknell won 12 of the 23 draw controls.
Junior Meghan Curtin put forth her best game of the season thus far, allowing eight goals with nine saves to bring her record to 5-3.
Bucknell and Lafayette traded goals in the first 15 minutes, before Lafayette ended the opening half on a four-goal run. Back-to-back White tallies took the lead at the 16:27 mark and her third score with 4:52 remaining on the clock sent the Leopards into the locker room with a 7-3 halftime advantage.
Coming out in the second, consecutive scores from Kleiber finished off the six-goal string and put the Maroon and White on top, 9-3, with 24:16 to play.
The Leopards and Bison traded tallies for the remainder of the half as Bucknell was never able to close the gap below five goals and Lafayette cruised to the 13-8 victory. Lafayette moves to 8-6 on the year and 2-2 in Patriot League play.
