Stony Brook's Petersen Sets NCAA Mark with 11 Assists
from press release
STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Claire Petersen did not
just etch her name into the Stony Brook record books Saturday
night. She broke the all-time single-game NCAA assist mark with an
11-assist performance that helped the No. 19 Seawolves cruise to a
21-3 win in their home opener against Longwood at LaValle
Stadium.

record of 10, while Demmianne Cook wracked up a game-high six goals
for Stony Brook (4-1). Frankie Caridi made one save, while Hannah
Perruccio made two stops as the SBU defense matched a
program-record of three goals allowed for the third straight
week.
Mollie Zimmerman relieved starting goalie Christian Acker to start
the second half and made four saves as Longwood drops its first
game of the season, falling to 4-1.
Coach's Reaction
"I thought this was a well-balanced effort in which we played well
on both ends of the field. The scoring was spread out, and we
played good, team-oriented defense. This is a good sign as we head
into the meat of our schedule."
--Head Coach Joe Spallina
Turning Point

minutes later to make it a four-goal game. With 22:12 left in the
first frame, Stony Brook extended its lead to 5-0 as Petersen
dished the ball to Amber Kupres, who found the back of the net.
Longwood got on the board with 19:51 to play in the opening
stanza, but the Seawolves ticked off 16 unanswered scores to secure
their third win by double-digit goals in three games and fourth of
the season.
