No. 19 Stony Brook Blasts Duquesne 16-3
from press release
DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. - The No. 19/17 Stony Brook
women's lacrosse team jetted off to a 12-1 lead before halftime and
never looked back, earning a 16-3 win over Duquesne Thursday
afternoon in a neutral site game hosted by the Dukes.
Janine Hillier and Demmianne Cook powered the Stony Brook (3-1) offense with five goals and one assist apiece. Frankie Caridi made five saves in net as the Seawolves tied a program record for fewest goals allowed in a single contest for the second week in a row.
This marks the fifth time in school history the Seawolves have let in just three goals. SBU previously allowed three last week in a 19-3 rout of CCSU and against Manhattan (2012), Sienna (2006) and Long Island (2004).
Duquesne drops to 2-3 on the season. The Dukes previously took top-10 opponents in Penn State and Notre Dame to the wire in 16-9 and 10-8 losses, respectively, but the Seawolves offense erupted again in a dominating victory.
"Today was a complete team effort on both sides of the ball," Stony Brook women's lacrosse head coach Joe Spallina said. "We are proud of the way the team played against a tough opponent and look forward to playing a home game Saturday."
