St. Francis Hands Binghamton First Loss

from press release

LORETTO, Pa. – Freshman Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's) recorded seven points to lead the Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team to a win over Binghamton, 10-5, at DeGol Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Flash (1-1) racked up nine scores in the first half and never gave the Bearcats (0-1) any chance to mount a comeback. SFU finished with 21 shots, with 15 of them coming on goal.

Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) started the scoring for SFU as she netted a goal three minutes into the game. Pittman scored the next two goals for the Flash, both off free position attempts.

Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) put one in the back of the net with 14:08 to play in the first half and the scoring started to pick-up as SFU scored five more before halftime.

With just 11 seconds to play before the break Pittman managed to fire another shot past the goalkeeper.

Megan Ross (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) scored early into the second period for SFU off a nice feed from Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East).

SFU would not score again in the half and relied on freshman Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) to make some big saves to fight off any Binghamton comeback. Shores picked up four saves in the winning decision. Kimberly Peterson (Higganum, Conn./Mercy) checked into the game for three minutes in the first half after a yellow card was given to Shores. Peterson tallied one save in the first half.

Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's) finished with four goals and three assists to lead the Red Flash. Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) finished with three goals to complete a hat trick effort. Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) posted two goals and Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) registered two helpers.

Saint Francis will hit the road for a couple weeks, they will face Winthrop on March 3 at 1 p.m.
