Sexton, Cooke Pace Davidson Rout of Kennesaw State

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Lucy Sexton notched five goals while Emily Cooke dished out 10 assists as the Davidson women's lacrosse team hammered Kennesaw State for a 20-2 triumph, marking the Wildcats' first win of the 2013 season Monday evening at Richardson Stadium.
Emma Sissman added in four goals, while Emily Rademacher and Catherine Schmidt each added a trio of scores as well. Lindsay Cooper struck twice, while Ann Fucigna, Emily Cooke and Liz Edwards each recorded a goal.
Jessica Melby and Katy Boyle split time in goal, with Melby picking up the win.
Paige Logan finished with a team-high seven ground balls for the Wildcats, with Sissman controlling the draw six times. Logan also led the squad in caused turnovers with four.
Cooper tallied Davidson's first strike less than 20 seconds in and the Wildcats never relented, taking a 3-0 lead off a pair from Sissman less than four minutes into the action. Back-to-back scores from Sexton made it 7-0 in favor of the home squad soon after.
After dishing out four assists, Cooke got onto the board with a goal of her own midway through the first half to push the 'Cats' lead to nine. She then added to more helpers as Schmidt and Edwards scored to close out the half with Davidson up 11-0.
The Owls got on the board in the opening minutes of the second half, scoring on a free position shot by Arielle Schmidt. Taylor Southerland netted another for KSU soon after, cutting the deficit to nine at 11-2.
However, the Wildcats would regain control from there. Schmidt and Sissman each scored unassisted, before Sexton sent in three in a row as Davidson took a 17-2 lead. Sissman, Cooper and Schmidt each notched one more in the closing minutes to seal the deal for the Wildcats.
Davidson will travel to Eugene, Ore., early next week for a pair of contest. First up is a tilt with Vermont, as the 'Cats and the Catamounts will face off March 6 at 4 p.m.
