Blog Replay: Northwestern at North Carolina (WD1)

North Carolina 11, Northwestern 8: Three Things We Learned

UNC can play a complete game
After falling to Florida in the season-opener after scoring three early goals and then scoring no more, the Tar Heels proved that they can hang with — and eclipse — anyone in the country if they can battle through the natural swings in momentum in any game.

Northwestern is vulnerable
As the nation's No. 1 team, the Wildcats will have to prepare better for every team's best shot. The effects of a week and a half's worth of downtime, travel and perhaps a little bit of complacency might have been what allowed Northwestern to surrender seven first-half goals.

The Tar Heels' goalkeeping — and team defense — is going to be tough to crack
Senior Lauren Maksym and freshman Megan Ward will be splitting games this season as coach Jenny Levy tries to initiate UNC's next cage protector. That she has enough confidence to put a freshman in goal against the nation's top team speaks volumes about the talent on this UNC roster.
