Defensively, the Blue Devils were led by junior Ashley Olhausen with three caused turnovers. Between the pipes, sophomore Morgan Tullar made 11 saves and picked up a team-high four ground balls.
Lafayette picked up 17 ground balls and won 13-of-23 draw controls. The Leopards converted on six of their 12 free position attempts, and held the Blue Devils to just 8-for-18 on clearing attempts.
White started off the scoring for the Leopards on an assist from Rothstein at the 27:38 mark. CCSU answered back right away with two goals to take the lead. Midway through the first half, Lafayette netted back-to-back goals by McCabe and Godfrey to reclaim the lead at 3-2 with 14:52 to play until the break.
CCSU rattled off three straight to take the lead with eight minutes left in the half, but Godfrey netted two goals to tie the game at five going into intermission. The first was off a feed from White, while the second was of the free-position variety with 32 seconds left in the half.
The Blue Devils came out of the break and scored back-to-back goals to gain a 7-5 advantage with 25:49 to play. However, Godfrey answered back for the Leopards. The senior netted goals number four and five of the night to start a four-goal rally and put the game in Lafayette's control. Rothstein and Linville finished the spurt that gave the Maroon and White a 9-7 advantage at the 20:49 mark of the second half.
CCSU's McCurry slowed the Leopards momentum momentarily with a goal, but Godfrey was there to answer again and netted her sixth goal a minute after CCSU pulled within one. Kleiber followed that up with her first of the night to push the lead to 11-8 with 13:19 to play. The Blue Devils scored the final two goals, but the Leopards killed the clock and a costly turnover by CCSU in the final minute gave Lafayette its second straight victory to start the season.
The Leopards hit the road for the first time this season on Sunday when they visit Liberty in Lynchburg, Va. at 2 p.m.
