Duke Releases 2012 Women's Lacrosse Schedule

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke women's lacrosse head coach Kerstin Kimel has announced the team's 2012 schedule, which features three games against national semifinalists from last season and eight contests against 2011 NCAA Tournament teams .
Duke will host eight games at Koskinen Stadium this coming season, beginning Saturday, February 4 against Bucknell at 1 p.m. In addition, the Blue Devils will serve as host for the 2012 ACC Championship, running Friday-Monday, April 20-23.
Following the season opener against the Bison, the Blue Devils begin a three-game road swing with a trip to William & Mary, Duke's only opponent from the Colonial Athletic Association, Wednesday, February 8. The Blue Devils then travel to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt Sunday, February 12 before returning to Virginia for a game against Richmond Friday, February 17.
For the ninth consecutive season, Duke will battle Northwestern as the Blue Devils play host to the reigning national champions Sunday, February 19 at 12 p.m.
The Blue Devils begin their ACC slate Saturday, February 25 against Maryland in a rematch of last season's NCAA semifinal. The game also marks the two teams' eighth meeting in the last five seasons and 22nd overall.
Following back-to-back home games versus last season's NCAA finalists, Duke will travel to the Northeast for games at Princeton and Stony Brook. The Blue Devils have won three straight against the Tigers and will look to continue that streak Saturday, March 3. Duke then takes on Stony Brook the following Monday, March 5, in the first meeting with the Seawolves in program history.
For the 17th straight season, Duke and Georgetown will meet as the Blue Devils host the Hoyas Saturday, March 10. Duke has won seven of the last eight meetings in the series, and will look to continue that success before hitting the road for contests at Virginia Tech (March 14) and Dartmouth (March 17).
Four of Duke's final five regular season contests will be played at Koskinen Stadium, starting Saturday, March 24 versus Virginia in the two squads' 28th all-time meeting. A short trip to Chapel Hill for the second of three consecutive conference bouts breaks up the final stretch as Duke will face North Carolina Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils then close out the league schedule at home against Boston College Saturday, April 7.
Home games against High Points (April 11) and Pennsylvania (April 28) end the regular season schedule. The ACC Tournament will be held in between Duke's two final home games.
The 2012 Blue Devils are in pursuit of the program's 15th straight NCAA Tournament appearance after advancing to the national semifinals a season ago. Duke returns eight starters from last year's 15-5 team, including All-America selections Emma Hamm, Kat Thomas and Kim Wenger.
