Longwood Signs Seven for 2012-13

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University women's lacrosse interim head coach Wendy Stone has announced the signing of seven student-athletes for 2012-13. Joining the Lancers will be Katie Burnet|Apex, N.C. (Apex), Nicole Cochran|Midlothian (Trinity Episcopal), Caroline Mann|Herndon (Herndon), Katie McHugh|Burke (Robinson), Caitlyn Miller|Vero Beach, Fla. (Vero Beach), Lisa Schell|Spencerville, Md. (Paint Branch), and Shelby Wilde|Buffalo, N.Y. (Nichols School).

"I am happy to announce the addition of seven new members to the Longwood Lacrosse family," said Stone. "This group of student-athletes is a complete class both athletically and academically; each will bring an accomplished high school career both on and off the field to Longwood. They will add depth on both ends of the field and in the goal for our program. We are excited to welcome them to Longwood Lacrosse."

Burnet, an attacker, is in her fourth year as a starter for Apex High School, recently named a team captain for her senior year. She earned Regional and National First Team All-America honors and helped Apex to two State Championships. As a junior, Burnet was the top goal scorer and an Academic All-Conference team member as well as a three-year selection to the North Carolina National Tournament Team. She plays for the Carolina Fever club team. Burnet also participated in four years of cross country, captaining the squad as a senior this fall and a member of the Academic All-Conference team. Off the field, she is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and on the Honor Roll.

Cochran, an attacker, is a letterwinner at Trinity Episcopal and currently a team captain. She plays for the Geronimo club team and also participates in tennis while a captain of the diving team, earning All-State honors three times and All-LIS as a sophomore.

Mann is a midfielder on the Future Elite club team and at Herndon High School, earning All-District Honorable Mention as a junior. She also participated in winter track and volleyball. Academically, Mann is a member of the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society, English Honor Society, Student Council Advisory and Keyettes.

McHugh was a First Team All-Region and All-District attacker as a sohpomore and junior at Robinson High School. She also earned Second Team All-District distinction as a freshman. Additionally, McHugh participated in the US Lacrosse Women's National School Girls Tournament on the DC Metro team two times and is also a member of the Capital Blue club team. Off the field, she is a two-year member of the Student Government Association.

Miller plays goalie for Vero Beach High School, earning All-District and All-Area as a sophomore and junior as well as being a First Team Regional All-American for South Florida and First Team All-American as a junior, ranking 19th on ESPN's list of Top 25 Goalies. Furthermore, she played in South Florida's US Lacrosse National Tournament as a junior and is also on the Stickbenders club team. Miller is a member of the National Honor Society.

Schell, a captain at Paint Branch High School, most recently earned the honor of First Team All-Division as a junior after previously being named to the Second Team. The midfielder also plays in the Hero's club team and captains the volleyball team while also playing basketball. Schell has been part of Minds in Motion for four years.

Wilde is from the Nichols School and has been a member of the US Lacrosse WNY-Rochester National Tournament Team for two years while playing for the Lady Roc club team, too. Also a participant in field hockey and ice hockey, the attacker is an honor student and involved in Young Life and the H.E.A.R.T. Club.
