Dukes Squash Spiders To Finish Regular Season

Duquesne's women's lacrosse team scored 10 straight goals over a span of 14 minutes to secure a 12-7 victory over visiting Richmond Sunday afternoon at Rooney Field.
After scoring the first goal of the game, the Dukes yielded five straight Spiders goals and trailed 5-1 with just 6:35 left in the first hald. Something began to click for the Dukes though as they scored twice within 11 seconds before the half to narrow the gap.
Duquesne scored again 15 seconds into the second half and tied the game 27 seconds after that before Caitlin Prince scored the eventual game-winner 42 seconds later.
Prince finished the day with six goals, giving her 62 for the season which is a Duquesne record. She broke the previous record of 58 which dated back to 2004.
Amanda Kidder tallied three goals, three assists, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and five draw controls. Haley Marafioti had two goals and two assists, Meredith Dunn had a goal and two assists plus four draw controls and Liz Walker made 10 saves.
The Dukes (12-5, 5-2) finished in a tie for second place with Richmond (9-7, 5-2) and with their tie-breaker over the Spiders, landed the two-seed for the Atlantic 10 Championship to be held April 27-29 in Richmond. The Dukes will face the host Friday at 1:00 pm.
