DeBruhl Leads St. Mary's Past Long Island

MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team
won its first-ever game at the new Recreation Field with a 19-11
win over Long Island on Thursday afternoon. The Gaels were led by

With the win, Saint Mary's improves to 2-6 while Long Island drops to 0-6.
The Gaels scored the first five goals of the game and never looked back. Caroline Mahony scored two of her three goals during the opening stretch. Saint Mary's took a 10-1 advantage after DeBruhl scored her first of six goals in the game.
Leading 14-4 at halftime, the Gaels cruised in the second-half as the Blackbirds pulled within eight on two occasions, but SMC had an answer for each run. LIU came as close as 14-7, but Olivia Angulo scored, while DeBruhl added two goals to push SMC's lead back up to 10.
In addition to DeBruhl's six scores, Mahony and Angulo added three goals each. Amanda Cross, Juliet Munroe and Jillian Chong each scored a pair of goals. Mariah Walk also scored for the Gaels. Kathleen Worsdale was stellar in goal with 12 saves.
LIU was led by Shakoya Smith with four goals.
Saint Mary's outshot LIU 44-29, including a 30-9 margin in the first-half. LIU held an 18-17 edge in groundballs while the Gaels held a 21-11 advantage in draw controls. Holly Hayes led the Gaels with four ground balls while Katie Williams had four ground balls for LIU.
Walk led the Gaels with four draw controls, while Krista Morgan and Angulo had three apiece. Gina Eberwein had six draw controls for the Blackbirds.
Saint Mary's is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Boston University at 2:00 p.m.
