UMBC Rides Big Second Half to Beat Blue Hens

from press release

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team pulled to within two goals early in the second half, but UMBC reeled off five straight goals over a 12-minute span to take control and post a 15-6 non-league victory over the Blue Hens Wednesday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.

Shannon Burns (at right) and Chelsea Fay each scored two goals to lead the Blue Hens (2-4), who suffered their third straight setback.

UMBC (2-2), which snapped a two-game losing streak, got big efforts from the trio of Lindsay Cox, Alicia Krause, and Abby Wilson who combined to score 11 of the Retriever goals.

Delaware will look to get back on the winning track this Saturday when the Blue Hens host No. 12 ranked Penn State at 12 noon at Delaware Stadium.
