Cosgrove, Hoffman lead Dolphins past Siena

from press release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Sophomores Jen Cosgrove and Ali Hoffman scored four goals each and Brittney Orashen and freshman Holly Ventimiglia added a hat trick each as JU romped past Siena 22-5 at Ashley Sports Complex Sunday.

Cosgrove, who has six goals on the year, scored two of her team's first four goals as JU (1-1) pulled out an early 4-0 lead.

Hoffman, who also has six goals on the season, did all her damage in a span of 12 minutes in the second half. Her first goal came on and assist from Sperbeck with 22:08 to play and her last came with 10:06 to go. Ventimiglia, a midfielder from Bay Shore, N.Y., had her hat trick in 4:23 of the first half. Her first came with 17 minutes to go in the half and gave JU a 6-1 lead as the Dolphins sent the Saints (0-2) to their second loss this weekend. They lost to Florida 23-5 Friday.

Orashen, from Lebanon, N.J., did all of her scoring in the second half.

That quartet got plenty of help from teammates as Sperbeck added two goals and Nikki Erdely, Kaitlin Stewart, Abbie Warnken,

Chelsea Watts, Mellissa Jaworski and Ellyn Spangenberg all had one. Erdely and Hoffman also had an assist each.

JU plays its first conference game Tuesday at D.B. Milne Field against Detroit at 3 p.m.
