Tabor Scores Six as Temple Pulls Away from Oregon

PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Jaymie Tabor scored
six goals including four of the Owls' final five tallies to lift
Temple lacrosse to a 14-12 season-opening win against visiting
Oregon on Friday afternoon. The high-offense affair featured seven
ties before the Owls (1-0) finally pulled away from the Dukes (0-1)
in the final few minutes.
Kelsey Zenuk, Stephanie Markunas and Jackie Mercer all scored two
goals and recorded one assist for Temple, while Kelly Syphard and
Kellee Pace rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece. Senior
goalkeeper Tess Bishop had an impressive performance with nine
saves for Temple.
Karly Cohen, Keelin Hood, Stephany Parcell, Macie Hauck and Missy
Schweitzer all tallied assists for the Owls.
Four different players scored for the Owls as they jumped out to a
4-1 lead after initially trailing 1-0, but the Ducks answered right
back. Shannon Propst, who would finish the game with three goals
for Oregon, scored at the end of the first half and at the
beginning of the second half to cap a 4-0 run that put her team in
the lead, 5-4.
From that point, neither team led by more than a goal until the
finall 12 minutes. The seventh and final tie of the contest came at
9-9 before Tabor scored twice within a minute, including the 10th
goal that put Temple up for good, and the Owls then led 11-9.
The Ducks came within one on two more occasions, the second at
12-11 with 5:51 on the clock before Tabor once again tallied
back-to-back scores. Her final goal put Temple ahead 14-11 with
under two minutes left, and Oregon scored just once more the rest
of the way.
Zenuk led all players with five ground balls, and Nina Falcone led
the Owls with four draw controls.
Temple will play its next game on the road at Rutgers, which set
for 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
