New UMass Coach Angela McMahon Completes First Recruiting Class

AMHERST, Mass. -- First-year UMass head coach
Angela McMahon has announced the signing of 10 newcomers to
National Letters of Intent for the 2012 season. The class includes
six midfielders, two attacks, one defender and one goalie.
"The 2012 freshman class is one of the strongest groups we have had in program history. They will add incredible depth to our midfield and outstanding talent in goal," said McMahon.
The incoming class is made up of Ellie Bullitt (Darien, Conn.), Jessica Daut (Pleasanton, Calif.), Lauren Freeland (New Cannan, Conn.), Cassie Raglan (Peterborough, Ontario), Mia Rapolla (Gorham, Maine), Erin Riley (West Nyack, N.Y.), Meredith Swagart (Washington, D.C.), Amy Tiernan (Deferiet, N.Y.), Rachel Vallarelli (Hartsdale, N.Y.), and Morgan Walker (Glastonbury, Conn.).
"These players truly embody what UMass Lacrosse is all about and we look forward to welcoming them on campus next fall."
Bullitt was a three-sport athlete at Darien High School. A member of the soccer, hockey and lacrosse teams, Bullitt was named the MVP of the Amonte Lacrosse Camp in 2009. She earned All-FCIAC honorable mention in hockey as a sophomore and junior. Also served as team captain for soccer and hockey.
Amador Valley HS
Daut was a 2010 Honorable Mention All-American for Amador Valley High School. During her career, she earned EBAL All-League First-Team honors, was a NorCal Regional Team selection, and earned a spot at the Under-19 U.S. National Team Tryout. Daut was named the Amador Varsity MVP and a Maximum Exposure All-Star. A three-time winner of the Scholar-Athlete Award in 2008-10, she was also a member of the soccer team.
New Canaan, Conn.
New Cannan HS
Freeland was named to the All-FCIAC Second Team following the 2010 season after helping New Cannan High School to its first-ever state championship. Also started in the midfield as a sophomore where she helped the team to the FCIAC Championship and a runner-up finish in the state tournament.
Raglan is a member of the Canadian Under-19 National Team which will compete in the 2011 World Cup. In 2009, she finished 2nd in scoring for women's lacrosse in Ontario. She has been a three-year starting attack/midfielder for the U-19 Kawartha Lacrosse Club, was a two-year member of the Ontario Provincial Rep Team and a member of the U-19 Team Edge Regional Select Team.
Rapolla was a two-time All-Maine selection for Gorham High School. In 2010, she was named the team's MVP and was an all-conference first team selection. A tri-sport athlete, Rapolla is also a standout on the cross country and basketball teams earning All-State and MVP honors as a runner and All-Conference First Team honors on the hard wood.
West Nyack, N.Y.
Clarkstown South HS
Riley is a four-year starter for Clarkstown South where she earned All-Section and All-Elite honors in 2010 along with All-League honors in 2009. For her career, she has 167 goals and 46 assists. Riley was also selected to the Hudson Valley Empire State Games as an attack.
Swagart is a four-year starting defender at the Bullis School where she posted 17 goals, 32 groundballs and 49 draw controls last year. She earned 2010 All-Gazette Second Team honors last season and was a member of the DC Metro Team 3 for the 2010 High School Girls National Tournament. This past fall, she served as team captain of the field hockey team as well.
Tiernan is a four-year letterwinner in lacrosse, basketball and swimming for Carthage High School. In lacrosse, she earned Academic All-America honors last season, was named to the New York State Empire Team, earned All-North Second Team honors (second year) and was named to the Frontier League All-Star Team (second year). Tiernan was also an all-league performer in basketball and swimming.
School of the Holy Child
A standout goalie for the School of the Holy Child, Vallarelli is a member of the 2010 Under 19 U.S. National Team that will play in the 2011 World Cup. She has been named to the ESPN Rise Top-10 Goalie list and played for Hudson Valley in the Empire State Games and at the National Tournament. For her career, she has 333 saves in three seasons after stopping 176 shots last season (second most in school history). Vallarelli is also a midfielder on the field hockey team.
Walker has been a four-year member of the both the lacrosse and indoor track teams at Glastonbury High School. In 2010, she earned All-Conference and All-Academic Team honors - the third straight season being named to the all-academic team. Last season, she was an honorable mention to the All-Courant Team and has been selected as captain of the team in 2011. She is a three-time All-State sprinter and was a member of the 2010 spring medley relay team that competed at Nationals.
