Georgetown Embarks on Ambitious Season
from press release
WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University
women's lacrosse squad released its 2011 schedule this past week.
In its first five games, the team will face three teams that
finished 2010 ranked in the top five nationally. The Hoyas will
have a good mix of nationally-recognized opponents as well as
conference foes, completing the season by hosting the 2011 Women's
Lacrosse BIG EAST Championship May 5-7 at Multi-Sport Field.
Georgetown will start off 2011 hosting the national runners-up,
Northwestern, on March 5. Following a trip to the University of
Florida, the Blue & Gray will host Duke on March 12.
The Hoyas will have back-to-back road games against Johns Hopkins
and Final Four participant North Carolina before returning home to
open conference play against Villanova on March 25.
A conference game against Connecticut will be sandwiched between a
pair of Ivy League battles against Yale and Princeton. The Yale
game on April 3 marks the beginning of a four-game homestand
featuring Cincinnati, Louisville and Syracuse. In three meetings,
the Blue & Gray defeated the Orange in the regular season and
the conference tournament championship game before falling in the
first round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
Georgetown will travel to Loyola (Md.) and Notre Dame before
hosting the National Champion University of Maryland on April 28 at
Multi-Sport Field. The Hoyas will close out season play at Rutgers
on May 1.
The BIG EAST Tournament will feature the top four teams in the
conference May 5-7 at Multi-Sport Field. This will be the second
time in league history that the Hoyas have hosted the conference
tournament.
Georgetown concludes its fall season this weekend hosting a
six-team tournament on Saturday at Multi-Sport Field. WINNERS
Lacrosse, a non-profit promoting lacrosse in the Washington, D.C.,
area will be on hand selling t-shirts and concessions. Admission is
$5 with all proceeds going to WINNERS Lacrosse.
