from press release
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Richmond used an unanswered seven goal scoring spree to rally past host Temple, 12-8, in the semifinal game of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Tournament Friday afternoon at Geasey Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Spiders improve to 10-8 overall and have won seven of their last eight.
Senior Danielle Schaevitz was instrumental in the Spiders' come-from-behind victory, tallying a team-best four goals and dishing three assists. In the seven-goal turnaround, Schaevitz had three assists and one goal.
The Spiders trailed 5-2 after the first half--their lowest first half goal total this season. After a Temple score put the Owls ahead 7-4, Richmond began its run. Over the next five minutes, the Spiders rattled off seven unanswered goals and seized the lead and clear momentum of the game.
Temple would counter with a score to make it 11-8 with 5:43 left, but Richmond closed out the game with a Schaevitz score to seal the game.
Caitlin Fifield followed Schaevitz with a hat trick, while Gabi Wiegand added two.
Richmond outshot Temple 24-21 and outdrew the Owls 13-9. Victoria Roebuck had a stellar game in goal with nine saves and thwarted many Temple goal attempts down the stretch to preserve the win.
The Spiders advance to their second-straight A-10 final and look for their fourth A-10 title Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against the winner of the Duquesne/UMass game. The contest will be nationally televised on CBS College Sports.
